Logan Park
From 1895 to 1939 the Old Soldiers' Southern Kansas Reunion was held in this park, named in honor of General John A. Logan, the first commander of the local GAR post. The reunion drew orators that included Theodore Roosevelt and U.S. senator from Kansas Charles Curtis. Elsewhere in the park a plaque is dedicated to Spanish-American War veteran Frank Bellamy, possible author of "The Pledge of Allegiance." Remnants of 1930s WPA improvements can be seen scattered throughout the park.
